S.T.E.A.M. Station is a daily opportunity for the Masterminds to explore different STEAM stations based on the classes happening across camp. Designed to be developmentally appropriate and child-centered, campers will get to choose the station(s) of their choice to explore a variety of activities like building, coding, math games, art, and nature, to name a few. Stations will be alternating on a daily basis, and themes will change weekly following the other camp courses. This class is all about campers exploring the world around them through hands-on activities and autonomy in their exploration!
During the first week of S.T.E.A.M Station, masterminds will have the option to tryout different stations where they can explore primary colors through color mixing using tempera paint on our communal mural, they will practice counting with manipulatives, create patterns with colorful beads, and design their own matching card game!
This week, campers will be building their own marble run with cardboard and tape. Masterminds will be exlporing the garden and creating still life drawings. Campers will add to our communal mural and use foam blocks to create their own unique patterns and stamps. Expect sculptures to come home this week because we will be creating with clay and experimenting with paper sculptures. Lastly, we will begin to introduce campers to Bee Bots, small robots that allow for young campers to learn basic coding skills.
This week in STEAM station, campers will get to explore the campus. We will be making observations in the garden and creating paintings with chlorophyll. Masterminds will also walk through campus to look for birds. We will then create a life list — a list of all the birds we seeing during summer camp!
This week, campers will explore stop motion movies. They will design characters and explore shapes as they create their own unique stop motion movie. We will also be exploring weaving— using weaving looms and crossed sticks. Weaving is meditative and a summer camp favorite!
This week in STEAM station campers will be creating their own city! Using recycable materials campers will design their own buildings, signs, plants and people that will live in this city. Campers will continue to explore Bee Bots. They will code their bot to travel through the Mastermind City! We will also spend time bird watching and observing what kinds of birds fly on campus.
